Steppin' out...

I noticed that there aren't too many posts here so I hope this gets read. I was just hoping to get some suggestions from others who are familiar with agoraphobia and panic/anxiety. I'm going out to a concert on the 8th of November. I haven't been to one since about 10 years ago when I had to walk out of a Cynic concert. I haven't gone to any shows since then. I really feel like I missed out on a lot and have been looking forward to being able to see a good show again. I don't want my 'problems' to get in the way of being able to see the whole show or just being able to step foot into a Hard Rock Cafe..I've never been there and it's an hour or more away from where I live. Not knowing what to expect doesn't make it any better. I'd love to get any 'tips' from anyone. I don't take medication on a regular basis anymore but I do carry some with me, just in case. At the moment I just rely on that and avoiding places of this sort (normally).

    hi zeela,

first of all, i think it's brave that u r going to a concert in the first place. good for you! i' d say get good sleep the night before, eat a good meal that afternoon or evening, and have your meds with you. i find that sometimes simply having my meds with me helps...it's like dumbo with the feather effect. And having food in your stomack always helps of course. As for the hour long voyage to the venue...I'd take a walkman and my favorite (can listen to it over and over and over) CD/tape. Or, if you're more of a book person...then your fave book would be good. Anything to distract you from letting your nerves build as you approach the place. Once you're there, then just ENJOY. :)

      Hi! Zeela ,
To add to whats already been said , I do find it much easier if I familierise my self with the place I'm going frst , & I always try to take some one with me espessially if it's somewhere I've not been before ! I go to tattoo festivals , Always with my hubby & I always try to arrange to meet someone I already know when I get there . I hope this helps & have a great time I know you can do it !

I wish I could do that...I'm definitely going with my mate, otherwise it just wouldn't happen. I don't drive very much, especially anywhere very far. We've been in Florida for 2 years and haven't met anyone like us. I can't believe the difference in the types of people that live in certain areas of the country or cities, etc. That's why I joined Tribe, I'm going stir crazy down here until we move again. Bad enough having agoraphobia and not being able to go anywhere on your own....worse yet, not having anyone to hang out with. I did want to go there beforehand and check it out first but I've got to convince Steve to drive me all the way there. I agree, I think it would really help to familiarize myself with the place. It's been a long time since I've been to a tatoo festival. It's been 14 years since I got mine. I'm thinking of getting back into it but this time time I'm considering getting my own gun and trying my hand at it. At least I don't have to go anywhere to do that! There's a lot of artists out there but for some reason, maybe it's all my recently developed phobias (?), I have a hard time trusting anyone to work on me. The guy that worked on my piece was really talented and it will be hard to find someone as good as him. There must be a website on recommended tat artists on the net...I'll have to check it out. Thanks again.

I'm in the uk , the best place to find an artist in the uk is the forum at www.skindeep.co.uk, I am very lucky in that respect I have mine done by a very old friend of my husbands so I don't have to worry on that score . The best way to learn tattooing is to get an apprenticship ,I'd love to but that involves working in a shop , it's an extreamly expensive thing to get into & without proper guidance it's possible to do some serious damage too!
There are some pretty good tattoo related tribes on here , some are in my profile hope thats useful in finding some one you could trust to do any future work you might want .

Hi...I just wanted to share.....I went to show last night and it was great! We drove out to the Hard Rock Live on Sat. to check it out beforehand...I'm glad I did. I could hardly make it as a passenger in our car through the busy roads in Orlando, then we found out it was in the Universal Studios park..so I then had to face my fear of large crowds and loud noise. But, it was all worth it. I went to the show and had a good time with hardly any symptoms. I guess familiarizing myself to the area made more difference than I expected. And My Chemical Romance were incredible. I'm ready for more....
