What's the problem?

I see nothing wrong in wanting to stay home. I hate to drive,
can't stand crowds. I'm content to stay out of the cold and snow
with my dog and 3 ferrets.

Greetings from the great indoors of Newfoundland and Labrador! I see nothing wrong with the outdoors - I vacation there. . . occasionally. But for finding oneself, others online and simply vegging out(another's expression), you can't beat the the honesty of the four walls. . .I just don't believe in giving them a chance to close in around me. You?

The problem is when you order everything you buy from the Internet and only one attempt is made to deliver it to you.

If I wanted to leave my apartment, I'd just go shopping!

No problem with deliveries here! Post Office , UPS, Fed-Ex,all just drop and go. Most stores, shops and offices are close by so I don't have to travel.

          You sure are lucky!

But then, I'm not sure where you live. Every excursion out of my apartment is an adventure in my interesting Los Angeles neighborhood.

Now I'm actually wondering if I joined this tribe thinking it was for people who can't (or won't ) leave home. I may have actually misread the name, thinking it was for agoraphobics. I don't really know what an agoraphobiac is.

Agora is greek for marketplace aka large groups of people outside. So agoraphobia liturally means fear of the marketplace. So yeah this group is for people that have a hard time leaving the house. And is diaignosed by a professional.

            I am agoraphobic.

I too am agoraphobic , and have been for 2 years , its not that I don't want to go out ! but when I do I tend to have massive panic attacks (and other assorted unpleasant problems )I have had 2 yrs worth of treatment from a psyciatric nurse & have recently been discharged as they recon that there isn't any more they can do for me ! I have been retired from my job due to ill health because of this .
I am finding it very difficult as until I got sick I was very out going , with a very positive attitude .
My overall condition is called sociophbia which is more of a problem with crowds than a problem with open spaces .
              Thats me !

    Hey, new here...hi all!

I have always liked the indoors more than the outside world, but last year it switched from a preference to a disorder...specifically, Avoidant Personality Disorder. I didn't leave the house for about 6 months, except once to see a specialist about a skin infection. Finally I realized that I had two choices...move back to Western NY (from San Fran, CA) to be near mom and get some help getting help, or suicide. I didn't really feel like death, so I moved. I love and miss San Francisco, but here helps me...where I live now, there is no grocery delivery service and no food delivery service of any kind...also, while I was able to manipulate my friends in SF into helping me with everything (including getting my mail and going to the ATM for me)...mom won't be manipulated; she knows all my games and is very good at saying no. I don't live with her, however, so while I am forced to get out once or twice a week for shopping and errands, I still get to be indepedant and stay in a bit. It's not a cure, but it does help to have less of an opportunity to feed the fear and whatnot of this insidious disease.
