I don't know about others here, but I have days when I can go out and days when I can't. Generally, I *make* myself go out on Wednesdays, because that's when I have my psych app't. Then, once I'm out, it's easier for me to do a little quick shopping for the things we need.

Well, today, Wednesday, I just couldn't do it. I just couldn't. I live in a very private rural spot, so there's no fear of anyone seeing me if I go outside, but I didn't even want to do that. I finally made myself, though, because I have lots of baby grass growing in and I needed to water my little secret garden. Once I'd gone out, anyway, I was able to go to a storage room we have in order to look for my favorite stuffed animal from childhood, a duck named, oddly enough, "Ducky." We were each other's best friend (in my own mind.) I found her the first place I looked. She will need quite a bit of TLC to get back to something like her original condition, but, as long as I can do it inside, I think I'm up to the task. I'm so glad I found her. I've been missing her recently.

How is anyone else doing? Are you ever able to leave the house or just sometimes?

My name is Paul. I am dealing with agoraphobia as well. Please forgive if i don't get all of the details that describe it correctly, i don't mean to offend, i am simply not good with details.

I have been looking for a place to share experience and hope for cures partial or full for 7 yrs now.

Hope this is part of the solution for me and many others.

You guys don't say much ...

Do you?! I LOVE all the posts I've read on here, but none of them is recent! Can we get some fingers tappin'? (On the keyboard, that is) I have wondered what actually constitutes a diagnosis of agoraphobia. I much prefer to stay in my house than go outside. I live in the country, so there's lots of private space, where I theoretically know that I'm "safe" and where I won't run into anyone. I'm okay on the property, but I prefer to be in my own smallish fenced tard. But, more than that, I prefer to be inside my home, inside my room, inside my bed!

My car is a "safe zone" as long as I know exactly where I'm going and there isn't awdul traffic. My psychiatrist's office is a semi-safe zone. (I've been seeing him for a year and I feel safe with him.) At first I had to have people drive me there and wait for me in the waiting room.

I CAN go out, sometimes, when I need to. But sometimes, it just seems too much for me.

Anyway, liven up guys! Talk to me!

NAME THE TOP 3 " THINGS " THAT YOU CAN DO, TO "HELP" GET YOU OUT OF THE HOUSE!

HERE ARE SOME THINGS THAT I HAVE DONE, AND THEY REALLY HELPED A LOT!!!

1) Shoot up about a 20 bag of heroin, until you CAN'T even remember your OWN name! (this way you can EASILY leave the house; just make sure you don't O.D. FIRST! ;-)

2) Set your house on FIRE! (this way you will be FORCED to leave, or if it STILL does not help, just wait until you start feeling the pain of (& smelling) your own searing flesh BURNING, then you'll be BEGGING to leave the house! ;-)

3) Take a 3 hour tour! (and PRAY that you end up ALL ALONE, on your OWN little island! ;-)

Believe it or not, I've seen a couple of love stories where the main character is agoraphobic. The latest one is a futuristic French movie called "Thomas In Love". Can't remember the name of the other one, but it was pretty quirky, too. Haven't found any yet where it's a woman. Maybe I'll have to write my own!

Any recommendations?

what are yours??

i can get to school and work no problem... but going anywhere else is an intense emotional drama that has to be worked though with effort...

also random things like burning man or intense places with non-realistic type settings are easy and require no thought to attend...

more of a partial agoraphobia?
just wanted to bring back life to this tribe and see what other members views are...
where they have come from
or where they are going....

i like not leaving the house... tee-hee

Does agoraphobia every fade away? it seems to get worse from time to time for me.....usually if I don't excersize myself (such as exploring new and different places or not doing something I've made progress in). Has anyone found any good techniques that last?

I noticed that there aren't too many posts here so I hope this gets read. I was just hoping to get some suggestions from others who are familiar with agoraphobia and panic/anxiety. I'm going out to a concert on the 8th of November. I haven't been to one since about 10 years ago when I had to walk out of a Cynic concert. I haven't gone to any shows since then. I really feel like I missed out on a lot and have been looking forward to being able to see a good show again. I don't want my 'problems' to get in the way of being able to see the whole show or just being able to step foot into a Hard Rock Cafe..I've never been there and it's an hour or more away from where I live. Not knowing what to expect doesn't make it any better. I'd love to get any 'tips' from anyone. I don't take medication on a regular basis anymore but I do carry some with me, just in case. At the moment I just rely on that and avoiding places of this sort (normally).

HI, I'm a recluse & my therapist thinks this is bad for me. But it gives me time to make costumes which I can wear if I Have to go out into the World. Sometimes the costumes are vintage clothes, sometimes they are just characterzations of where I am going - like I will be dressing today as a depressed recluse to see my therapist. But I have to figure how to also represent the Patriotic voter that is paranoid of the government right now....
